There will be a One Minute pause between the first and the second reading. Then you will have another One Minute to check your work after the second reading. Write your answers on ANSWER SHEET (2)

OUTLINE

I. From the point of view of recycling, paper has two advantages over B1 and oil

because:

a) Paper comes from a B2 resource: trees. And trees are B3.

b) Paper is also biodegradable, so it does not pose as much threat to the environment when

it is B4.

II. Australia’s paper industry:

a) Although Australia’s record in the re-use of waste paper is good, it is still necessary to

use a combination of recycled fiber and B5 fiber to make new paper. b) Governments have encouraged waste paper collection and sorting B6.

c) The paper industry develops new technologies that have B7 the way for even greater

utilization of used fiber.

d) Waste paper constitutes B8 of paper used for packaging. III. To achieve the benefits of recycling, the community must also contribute.

a) We need to accept a change in the B9 of paper products; for example stationery may be less white and of a B10 texture.

b) Waste paper also needs to be separated into different types and sorted from B11 such as

staples, paperclips, string and other miscellaneous items.

IV. Paper recycling process:

a) The most common sources of waste paper: B12 and B13 stores, also B14, paper

converters and printers, and lastly B15.

b) Once collected, the paper has to be sorted by hand. It then has to be B16 with water and broken down into its individual fibers. This mixture is called B17.

c) After passing through the repulping process, the fibers from printed waste paper are grey

in color because the printing ink has B18 into the individual fibers.

d) Before the recycled fibers can be made into paper they must be B19 or treated in such a way that they B20 together. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
