An automatic packaging machine forpackaging tubular articles comprises an inclined surface 2 on which articles are randomlyplaced, a conveyer 4 portioned into conveyer channels by relatively movable strips 31, 32(Fig. 5, not shown), a plurality of suction pipes 5 each cooperating with a channel, whichpipes transfer the articles to shoots 6, and means whereby those articles presentedthereto upside down are reversed, the articles thereafter passing down shoots 49 into abox 63. The reversing means comprises laterally inclined stop surfaces 45. Articlespresented thereto upside down are reversed due to frictional contact between thosearticles and the surfaces. However, articles presented thereto bases lowermost arerotated about their longitudinal axes during movement of the surfaces (Fig. 10, notshown). The articles are further arrested by stop surfaces 51 whereat swing arms 52,which are electrically connected to a counting device, contact the articles and effect acount thereof. The articles then pass into box 63. An alternative arrangement (Fig. 16, notshown) includes a box carriage which has inclined surfaces which engage electric contactsto first stop the suction in pipes 5, and finally cause complete stoppage of the machine.The pipes 5 are movable transversely and perpendicularly of the conveyer thus to

accommodate articles of various sizes.
